2025-08-09 Body Vent System This is a little tangential to The Comvette Project but since it involves the BOSE speaker system it's worth talking about. A lot of C4 Corvette owners have wondered why the rear BOSE speaker grilles were enlarged in 1988 with an additional grille section. Some assumed from the look of the new grille design that it was to allow for a bass port for improved sound. But others questioned that theory when the speaker grille was removed and there was no obvious connection to the speaker cabinet. So here's a bit of info that I came across in the "1988 Corvette Specifications" document that dealers were issued. The 1988 Corvette was equipped with a Body Vent Pressure Relief System. The illustration below shows how the interior cabin air is channeled from the BOSE speaker grille through a molded plastic duct to the air vent located in the door jamb.
